Gideon was spouse of Esther Eggleston. Son of Benjamin and Lucy Clark Matthews. Father of 9 children. My 5th ggrandfather.

Gideon MATTHEWS was born on 12 Oct 1741 in Waterbury, New Haven, Connecticut. He served in the military in 1758. Colonial Wars. He served in the military in 1774. Corporal in the Revolutionary War. He died on 2 Feb 1807 in Chester, Hampden, Massachusetts. Ancestor Chart has 17 Feb 1807. Gravestone reads "Feb. 2, 1807, 65 years old." He was buried about 3 Feb 1807 in Chester, Hampden, Massachusetts. "He was in the Colonial Wars in 1758, 10th Company, Cap. Josiah Lee, as a Corporal. Enlisted May 25th; mustered Nov. 14th. He signed articles of agreement to organize the first church in Chester, Massachusetts, november, 1769. In organizing this church, while there were a variety of opinions they adopted an agreement agreeable to the Westminster Confession of Faith. He was deacon of the church for many years."
