Ralph Kellogg, 81
Memorial services for Ralph S. Kellogg, 81, automotive designer, who had a retirement home on Burt Lake, will be held Tuesday at the Brutus United Church of Christ. Private interment will be in Burt Township Cemetery, Cheboygan County. Mr. Kellogg died Friday, June 20 at Pontiac General Hospital.
Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario Mr. Kellogg became a page for the Ontario Parliament at the age of 14. During World War I he became an apprentice with the Glenn H. Curtiss aircraft factory in Toronto. From 1919 to 1924 he worked as a draftsman and designer for the Dort Motor Car Co. in Flint before joining the Packard Motor Car Co. of Detroit where he worked as a draftsman from 1924 until he became chief draftsman in 1934. He also worked as assistant chief production engineer for Packard and the Rolls Royce Motor Car of England where he helped design the Merlin aircraft and marine engine used in World War II PT boats. Mr. Kellogg served as chairman of the Society of Automotive Engineers Aeronautical Drafting Manual and the Steering Committee which prepared the drafting manual for the automotive industry. He was a member of the Lions Club of Pellston, the Masonic Lodge 464 of Royal Oak and the Brutus United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife Helen, a daughter, Mrs. Dora Jean Mapes; three grandsons.
