U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to New York in 1849, he attended Cambridge Academy, Union College, and graduated from Jefferson College Pennsylvania, in 1863. He entered the Union Army in 1864 and served as Captain of Company K, 16th Regiment of New York Heavy Artillery, until the end of the Civil War. After the war, he was editor-publisher of the Washington County Post. Entering politics, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-third Congress, (1873 to 1875). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was appointed collector of internal revenue for the northern district of New York, serving (1883 to 1885). He also was a member of the Republican New York State Central Committee until his death.
