Staff Sergeant Fowler was a left gunner aboard U.S. Army Air Corps B-29-30-BW Superfortress #42-24504 "Gunga Din." The bomber crashed approximately one minute after take off from Cheng-tu, China. All crewmembers were KIA and 42-24504 was a total loss. Takeoff was at night so to arrive over Omura in the early hours of daylight.
