Ira D. Brandt, 93, formerly of McAlisterville RR1, died Sunday, December 26, 1993, at 2:50 p.m., at Brookline Manor Convalescent Home, Mifflintown RR1.

He was born September 21, 1900 in Bannerville, Snyder County, the son of the late Jay and Ida M. Brandt.

He graduated from Elizabethtown Academy [College].

He was an ordained Brethren minister and was pastor of Swatara Hill Brethren Church, near Elizabethtown.

He married Martha Overholtzer in 1921 and she died in 1971.

The family moved to McAlisterville in 1940 and he worked at Hawstone Brick Plant, then at Montgomery Ward's retail store in Lewistown, retiring as department manager in the mid-1960s.

He and his wife then were houseparents of a male dormitory at Elizabethtown college for eight years.

He married the late Hannah Detra, who preceded him in death in 1989.

He returned to McAlisterville and tended his greenhouse until he took residence in the convalescent home in October 1992.

He was a member of Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, where he had also been substitute minister, as well [at] Free Spring Church of the Brethren of Mifflintown RR1.

He is survived by one son, Charles I. Brandt of Selinsgrove; one brother, Jacob Brandt of Elizabethtown; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with Rev. Elwood O. Johnson officiating. Interment was at the convenience of the family in the Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown.
