J. D. Scott Died This Morning at Lafayette Soldiers' Home After Long Illness.
An invalid for years, and almost helpless of late, J. D. Scott, one of the pioneer residents of the city and widely known not only in Elwood but throughout the entire community, died at 4 o'clock this morning in the hospital at the Lafayette Soldiers' Home where he had been making his home for the past year. Undertaker M.E. Winings left on the morning Lake Erie train for that place and returned on the 1:55 train with the body this afternoon.
The deceased was a veteran of the Civil War, having served throughout the long years of that Rebellion amd his sacrifice to his country was a lower limb which he left on one of the battle fields of the South. There were few more patriotic men in the city than was Mr. Scott. The last years of his life were filled with sickness and for several years he had been a heavy charge to the family who were never lacking in their disply of affection and tender care. He is survived by a widow and three children, Clarence, Edna, and Kathryn Scott, all residents of Elwood. The hour for the funeral has not yet been set, but it is understood the Grand Armp post will attend in a body. (Elwood Call Leader, March 26, 1912.)
