The Benson family moved to the Talmoon area in 1917, Don graduated from Deer River High School and played on its first football team. He attended Garden City, Kansas Jr. College and married Alma Anton in Itasca County on May 16, 1933. Don was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a summer fishing guide and a school bus driver and logger, also a member of the American Legion in Marcell. Preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters, survivors include his wife, Alma; a son, Rob of Kandiyohi; two daughters, Donna Hone of Phoenix, Ariz and Phyllis Stephens of Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Catherine Umstot of Jacksonville, Fla and Edna Baker of Bigfork.
