Pioneer Orange Woman Is Dead.

Mrs. William Adgate, Three Years a Helpless Invalid, Succumbs Monday.

Mrs. William Adgate, a pioneer resident of Orange township and a woman who command the highest respect and esteem of everyone who knew her, passed away Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Benedict, two miles south of Ionia, in the Tuttle Cemetery neighborhood.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, and burial was made in the Balcom cemetery in Berlin township.

Mrs. Adgate was born in the state of Ohio 82 years ago, and for the past three years she had been a practically helpless invalid. She came to Ionia county when she was about ten years of age, spent a part of her early life in Berlin township and settled in Orange upon her marriage to Mr. Adgate in 1852. She had been a continuous resident of that locality since, and in that time had formed an extended acquaintance.

Frank Adgate, a well known citizen of Portland, is a son of Mrs. Adgate, and other children surviving her are Mrs. Phoebe Scheurer, of Orange township, John W. Adgate, of Ionia, and Mrs. Frank Taft, Lewis Adgate and Mrs. Nellie Benedict, all of Ionia township.
