The T. H. Barnes Reunion was named in honor of Thomas Hood Barnes. He was a son of David and Mary (Hood) Barnes, and grandson of the Thomas and Sarah (Sittser) Barns who brought their seven children (eldest to youngest): Melissa, David, Aaron, Sarah Ellen, Martha Louise, Sophronia Ellen, and Sevira Ellen, to Jackson, Michigan, from Seneca Falls, Seneca County, New York, in October, 1843. T. H. and wife Pearl, who had no children of their own, restarted in 1924 the lapsed reunion tradition that formerly had been carried on for many years. Although the reunion has been held a number of different places over the years, the most frequent venues were the park at the Mill Pond in Horton, Michigan, and at the Tompkins Township Town Hall near Jackson, Michigan, where it has found a permanent home since 1981.
