Ernest Mermen, 82, of Rt. 7 south of Lafayette, died at 7:15 p.m. Friday in Home Hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday. He was a lifelong resident of Tippecanoe County and was a retired farmer. He was married to Elizabeth Smith in 1906 and she preceded him in death in 1962. He was a member of Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two sons, Wilbur of Battle Ground, and Orville of Lafayette Rt. 7; two daughters, Mrs. Eloise Ritchie of Crawfordsville Rt. 7, and Mrs. Florence Mallett of Evansville; and a sister. Mrs. Casper Basham of Wadsworth, Ohio.
