Screenwriter, Motion Picture Director, Producer. Noted for his association with Hammer Studios. Born in North Wales, he began his career in the industry at the age of sixteen as a clapper boy and and gopher. Following his National Service in the RAF, he joined Exclusive Films as an assistant director. Sangster moved onto Hammer, initially as an assistant director for their BBC Radio serials, and co-wrote the short "A Man on the Beach" (1955). This would lead to him scripting some of Hammer's most memorable pictures including "The Curse of Frankenstein" (1957), "Blood of the Vampire" (1958), "The Mummy" (1959) and "The Brides of Dracula" (1960). Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee (who were often paired together) became cult stars from Sangster's efforts. He produced the film "The Nanny" (1965), which starred Bette Davis, and directed the features "The Horror of Frankenstein" (1970) and "Lust for a Vampire" (1971). During the 1970s, he penned stories and had several directing credits with the American TV programs "McCloud," "Ironside," "Cannon," and "The Six Million Dollar Man," among others.
