From the Skidmore News, Thursday, March 24, 1921, page 1:
"Wesley Barrett Died Monday Afternoon
End Came After Months of Suffering, Funeral Yesterday Afternoon, Burial in Masonic Cemetery

Charles Wesley Barrett died at his home here Monday afternoon, March 21, after a long illness. It is not known how long he had been afflicted with the fatal disease, but he had been in very poor health for a year or more. About the last of December he underwent an operation at Kirksville, and was in the hospital there for several weeks. Since returning home he had been very weak, and gradually grew worse until the end.

Mr. Barrett was born in Warren county, Pennsylvania, January 15, 1854. In 1879 he came to Missouri, and was united in marriage to Jennie Elizabeth Parrish, March 13, 1888. To this union were born eight children, Amy, Alma, Alta, Archie, Agnes, Alice, and Adrean and Aleen who died in youth.

In 1906 he united with the Methodist Episcopal church, and had lived a consistent Christian life. His experience grew richer and brighter as the years passed.

He was a charter member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at this place, and he believed and practiced all of its teachings. He said it was his lodge that awakened in him the desire to live a better life.

Besides his wife and children, he leaves five brothers, Reuben, John, James E., Henry Thomas, and Robert; three sisters, Mrs. A. D. Russell, Mrs. Sarah Russell, and Mrs. Rose Abbott; and a host of other relatives and friends. A brother, William Barrett of Sugar Grove, Pa., died Tuesday at noon and will be buried tomorrow.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. E. Olson, and burial was in Masonic cemetery. All of the children were at home for the funeral."
