Oscar L. Johnson, Sr., 88, formerly of 810 North First St. died at 5:05 am today at Community Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 25, 1891 in the Bald Bluff Community, the son of Andrew Pete and Anna Anderson Johnson. He was reared and educated in Henderson County. He married Alma Knuth February 14, 1924 in Monmouth, and she died January 25, 1971.
Mr. Johnson was employed by the telephone company for 18 years, retiring in 1966. For the past seven or eight years he had been employed at the Monmouth Country Club.
Surviving are five daughters: Mrs. Donald (Mary) Miller, Mrs. James (Rose) Scott, Mrs. Willis (Ellen) Jones, Mrs. Dean (Patti) Leath, and Mrs. Marjorie Phillips, all of Monmouth; five sons: Roy, Sr., Oscar L., Jr., Wilbur, and Frank, all of Monmouth, and Clarence O. of Pittsfield; one brother Linus of Peoria; grandchildren and other relatives. Two infant daughters, one grandson, one brother: Leonard, and one sister: Mrs. Mary Carlson died earlier.
Services wil be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday at the Turnbull Funeral Home. Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 pm Tuesday at Turnbull's, friends may call Tuesday and Wednesday.
