William Appleton

U.S. Congressman. He was a successful trader, ship owner, and banker merchant, in Boston, when he entered politics in 1850. In 1851, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second and Thirty-third Congresses, serving until 1855. He was again elected as a Constitutional Unionist to the Thirty-seventh Congress in 1861, but resigned due to failing health and died shortly after at age 75. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
