Karen was born in Norway. She married Bernard B. Sather in 1888. They had 9 children, Caleb B.(b. Aug 1889 in N.J.), Rebecca B.(b. Oct. 1893 in R.I.), Esther (b. Apr. 1895 in R.I.), Miriam H. (b. Feb. 1897 in Maine), Bernard R. (b. Nov. 1898 in Maine), Rachel B.(b. abt 1901 in Maine), Werner T.(b. abt 1904 in Minn.), Gilbert A. (b. abt 1906 in N.D.) and Wilbur K. (b. abt 1909 in N.D.).

Per the 1900 federal census, Bernard and Karen lived in Portland, Cumberland, Maine with Caleb, Rebecca, Esther, Miriam and Bernard, Jr. Bernard, Sr. worked as a clergyman.

By the 1910 federal census, they had relocated to Mandan, Morton, North Dakota. They now had all 9 children ranging from 1 to 21 years. A cousin from Norway, 25 yr old, Hulda lived with them also. Bernard still worked as a preacher and Caleb worked as house carpenter.

According to the 1920 federal census, Bernard and Karen lived in Loring, Dunn, North Dakota. Rachel, Werner, Gilbert and Wilbur lived with them. Bernard and Werner worked the family farm and Rachel was a teacher at a public school.

Per the 1930 federal census, Karen (66) lived with the Vernon family in Upland, San Bernardino, California. She worked for the family as a housekeeper. This same census showed that oldest daughter, Rebecca was widowed in 1928 when her husband, Hans Maxie, a general store merchant, passed. Rebecca had 8 children, ages 4-17 to raise and worked as a cook in a school cafeteria.

1937 Voters records show Karen lived with son, Wilbur and his wife, Olive at 1149 E. State St. in Pomona, Los Angeles, California.

1938 Voters records show Karen now lived with Werner at 673 West St. in Upland, San Bernardino, California.
