Junior Herbert Erickson, age 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, August 11, 2011.
Junior was born March 16, 1924 in Murray to Herbert Spencer Erickson and Elizabeth Day.
Junior grew up in Murray and graduated from Murray High School. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
While serving in the navy, Junior made a trip around the world on the Navy ship the Galloping Ghost, a U.S. Navy Oil Tanker out of Pearl Harbor.
After the war, he married the love of his life, Erleen Olander, on October 11, 1948, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in October 1951.
Junior graduated from Trade Tech as a carpenter and then worked as a superintendent for Alder Construction for many years until his retirement in 1994.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by all that knew him. He loved to travel with his wife and friends to many places in the world.
Junior was always willing to help others anyway he could; he was always there when someone needed him.
He enjoyed his association with his retired military buddies. He helped build a submariner monument at Camp Williams.
Junior and Erleen continued to maintain close friendships with six couples from high school, meeting in a monthly club for over fifty years. Although some have passed, they continue to have their club meetings and enjoy one another's company.
He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Jerry Earl and Robert Spencer; and sister, Donna Hart. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Erleen; three sons, Kent Richard (Cindy), Ronald Jay (Sondra), and Steven Junior, as well as his daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; sister, JoAnn McLeod; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, and Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 10:45 until 11:30 a.m. in the Jordan North Second Ward Building, 4270 South Falcon Street (4145 West), West Valley City. Funeral services will be held afterwards at 12:00 p.m.
Interment will follow with full military honors accorded at Valley View Memorial Park.
