Mrs. Elizabeth Brown died at 12:25 o'clock a.m., July 9th, after several years of failing health due to her advanced age.
Elizabeth, daughter of Frederick and Mary Stumbaugh was born in Franklin county, Penn., January 16th, 1827, where she resided until the spring of 1852 when the family moved to Clinton county, Iowa, on the way to Keokuk, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Andrew C. Brown, formerly of Pennsylvania, Dec 1st, 1853.
To this union was born four sons and four daughters, all of whom survive her except, Wallace the oldes son, who died, Nov. 14, 1885.
Andrw C. Brown, the husband and father preceded her, Aug. 6, 1867.
Three sisters, seven children, eight grand children and five great granchildren are left to mourn her loss.
She lived in Clinton. county, Iowa, until 1883, when she moved with her family to Grundy county, Iowa, where she has since resided on the farm 4 1/2 miles south of Grundy Center.
She was one of Iowa's pioneers and one of Grundy county's oldest residents.
She was ninety years, five months and twenty-three days old at the time of her death.
The deceased's life has been commendable and above reproach. She was quiet and undemonstrative, but kind and sincere and dearly beloved by her children to whoom she was an ideal mother.
She united with the Presbyterian church in her youth and reamined true to the faith through life.
The funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Dilman Smith.
The remains were laid to rest in the Lincoln township cemetery beside those of her son.
The floral offerings were very many and beautiful.
Besides relatives living near, her sister, Mrs. Ellen Wilson and son Harry of Miles, Jackson county, Ia; her daughter, Clara of Wray, Colo; her son, Slewelly and his daughter, Mrs. John Lindquist and little grand daughter of Keokuk, Ia; her granddaughter, Mrs. G. H. Bogenhagen and two little daughters of Julesburg, Colorado, her nephew Edward McKeen and grand niece Miss Nada Beebe of Creston, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Walters of Traer, were in attendance at the funeral and also many friends and neighbors.
