An inhabitant in Stonington, New London Count, CT in 1670. He was invited to be a teacher in Stonington by Abigail [Ingraham/Ingram] Chesebrough in Jun 1675.
Joshua removed from Stonington, CT to Westerly, Washington County, Rhode Island following his marriage to Abigail (Ingraham/Ingram) Chesebrough.
Joshua served in King Phillip's War:
King Philip's War was an armed conflict in 1675–1678 between Indian inhabitants of New England and New England colonists and their Indian allies. The war is named for Metacomet, the Wampanoag chief who adopted the name Philip because of the friendly relations between his father Massasoit and the Mayflower Pilgrims. The war continued in the most northern reaches of New England until the signing of the Treaty of Casco Bay in April 1678.

It is possible his parents are Robert Holmes and Ellen Bolton of Stonington, New London Co, CT. However, there is no support documentation. There are also two records to support the following: Baptism: Joshua Holme, son of Robt; 1 Nov 1635; St Peter, Bolton-le-Moors, Lancashire, England. No mother's name given. (More research is needed.)
Note: The picture attached to this memorial indicates a "possibility" that Joshua is buried in Thompson Cemetery. Since he died in Westerly, RI and there are no other Holmes buried in Thompson Cemetery, this may not be his "final resting place."
