Arnold R. Totherow, 89, of Marble died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 in an Asheville hospital. He was a native of Macon County, but had lived most of his life in Cherokee County. He was a retired timberman. Arnold was a member of Red Marble Baptist Church, but had been attending Maltby Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late George Glen and Hester Elizabeth Trantham Totherow and the husband of the late Lenna Elizabeth Welch Totherow, who died September 22, 2003. He was also preceded in death by a son, Billy Totherow; three sisters, Hazel Huskins, Eleanor Wilson, and Pauline Watkins; and two brothers, Garland and Loyd Totherow.

Surviving are two daughters, Gladys Totherow of Marble and Sue Jones and husband, Newton of Nantahala; a sister, Frances Rimmer and husband, Jimmy of Bessemer City, NC; two brothers, Marvin Totherow and wife, Katie of Carrollton, OH and R.L. Totherow of Wilmington, NC; a granddaughter, Tracy Jones; and two great grandchildren, Cristina Feria and Jacen Carver.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 11 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Revs. Jerry Beavers and Ronald Patterson officiating. Interment will be in Maltby Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby and Darrell Watkins, Rickie Garrison, Harold Beavers, Jeff Cannon, and Woody Huskins.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Arnold R. Totherow to the Gideons International, PO Box 164, Murphy, NC 28906.
