He died in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed. He grew up in Siloam Springs and graduated in 1996. He was a pararescueman with the 24th Special Tactics Squadron. He wanted to go into the medical field but joined the military instead after seeing a video of a special tactical unit. Among his military awards and decorations were the Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; Purple Heart; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters; Aerial Achievement Medal; Joint Service Commendation Medal; Air Force Commendation Medal; Joint Service Achievement Medal; Air Force Achievement Medal; and Air Force Combat Action Medal.

Interment on August 30, 2011.
