Mr. Geiger was born January 23, 1827, in Bervangen, Groshertzung-Baden. He left Germany for the United States in 1854 and settled in Iowa, where he lived two years. Then he came to Galena and bought a farm in Rice, on which he lived for a number of years, in the meantime working at his trade, that of a stone mason, in Galena. For several years it was his daily practice to walk form his home to Galena, a distance of nine miles, in the morning, and to walk back again when his day's work was done. Of recent years he has lived on High street, where he had an extensive vineyard. He was for a number of years janitor of the Central school building.
