father: William Stauffer Holmes 1816-1905
mother: Mary Apless Wright 1832-1897

Leila's last child, Velma, was born in December 1890. She could not have died a year before Velma was born!!
The tombstone date of 1889 is in error.

Leila was educated at Mary Hardin Baylor, now a part of Baylor University in 1878-1879. She was a teacher.
On June 14, 1882 she married Samuel Robert Gerald, a widower with 8 children. They had four children together, 3 of whom survived to adulthood. Her son Willie died just after his first birthday. Leila died when her youngest child, Velma, was 8 years old. She had been ill for some time before she died, but the cause of death/nature of her illness has not been handed down in family lore. Her father Wlliam was an early settler in Texas, who fought in the Texas revolution.
