Wallace Ramsbottom, 83, prominent cattleman of Johnson county for many years passed away at his home in Sheridan on Wednesday, March 21, 1945 after a very short illiness. He suffered a stroke the preceding Saturday night. He was the son of Ellen Foster and John Ramsbottom, both of whom were born in England, but came to this country at an early age and settled in Wisconsin, where deceased was born at Pine River. The family came from Wisconsin to Creston, IA, in a covered wagon. He was married to Agnes kelly at Bellville, Kansas on June 20, 1887 and to this union nine children were born, six of whom survive; Mrs Horace Snider of Billy creek; Mrs Judd Gooden of Kearney,NE; Mrs Archie Ewoldson of Cheyenne; Ross and Lyle of Johnson County, and Leonard of Sheridan. Also surviving are four grandsone, Lt. Richard Snider of Modesto, CA; Gene Snider of Rangely, CO; Wallace Dale Ramsbottom of Buffalo, and Gary Gooden of Kearney. There are also two great grandsons. his wife died July 7, 1937, while they were aboard a boat enroute to England in celebration of their fiftieth wedding anniversary and her remains were buried at Greenock, Scotland.
The family moved to Johnson county in 1906, and at that time he purchased what was known as the Charlie Simmons ranch buying other properties and extending the ranch until it was known as one of the most extensive cattle ranches in the state. He was one of the first to use pure bred bulls in the country, and during his 38 years in business here he has shipped in 22 car loads of bulls for his own use.
He was a member of the Elks lodge at Sheridan.
Funeral seervices were held from the Episcopal church in Buffalo on last Friday, and were conducted by the Rev. Rex C. Simms, rector of that church and interment was in Willow Grove cemetery.
