Morris Hacker, 90, of Rutter Avenue, Kingston, died Wednesday morning at home. Born November 11, 1913, in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of Joseph and Bertha (Graup) Hacker. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School, and attended the Wharton School of Business. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WW II, where he received the Good Conduct, American Defense Service, American Theater Service, and World War II Service Medals. He was a co-proprietor of Hacker's Supermarket, Plymouth, and in 1972 joined the sales staff of Landau's Furniture, Plymouth. He was a member in perpetuity at Temple Israel, a member of the former B'nai Israel Synagogue, a member of the Jewish Community Center, its Men's Club, Leisure Lounge, and the Jewish War Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Hannah Wruble, in 1997; sister, Sadie Moses; and brother, Oscar Hacker. Surviving are his daughters, Paula Boutemy, Paris, Susan Hacker Stang, St. Louis, Mo.; a granddaughter, Anne Klopfenstein, Paris; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m., from the Rosenburg Funeral Chapel, 348 South River Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Larry Kaplan and Cantor Ahron Abraham officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville. Shiva will be observed at the family home, 629 Rutter Avenue, Kingston, Wednesday and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Jewish Community Center Men's Club, River Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702, or Hospice St. John, 1007 Oak St., Pittston Township, PA 18640.
