U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Yale College, in 1825, studied law, was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Savannah, Georgia. He was judge of the superior court of Chatham County, (1847-49, 53-68) and served as recorder of the City of Savannah, from 1868, until the office position was abolished. He was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Julian Hartridge and served from February 17, 1879, to March 3, 1879. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was again judge of the superior court, (1879-81).
