Robert J. "Bob" Geschwend, 61, of Alhambra passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2009 near his home.
He was born on October 15, 1947 in Highland to his parents Joseph and Evelyn (nee Ammann) Geschwend. He was married on July 14, 1979 to Karen Frandsen.
He grew up in Edwardsville and graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1965. He worked for McDonald Douglas for a short while and started working for Operating Engineers Local #520 as a heavy equipment operator and was a master mechanic. He retired in 2003 but continued doing dozer, welding and mechanic work for many local farmers.
He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, Operating Engineers Local #520 and Staunton Masonic Lodge A.F.& A.M.
He is survived by his mother Evelyn Geschwend (nee Ammann) of Glen Carbon; one son Kurt Geschwend of Glen Carbon; one daughter Kristin Geschwend of Alhambra; sister Susan (Frank) Cox of Glen Carbon; aunt and uncle Charles (Janet) Geschwend of Glen Carbon and cousin George Geschwend of Seattle, Washington.
He was proceded in death by his father Joseph Geschwend and wife Karen (nee Frandsen) Geschwend.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 24, 2009 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra. Funeral service followed Friday's visitation with Rev. Jerry Amiri of Salem United Church of Christ. Interment was held at Salem Cemetery near Alhambra.
