Jun. 24, 1861 Providence Providence County Rhode Island, USA
Sarah Ellen Douglas was the second child of William and Sarah (Sawyer) Douglas, who lived on Prospect Streetin Providence. She was the daughter of a clergyman. Sarah was an intelligent, sensitive girl who died young, of consumption. Her older brother mentioned her often in his many letters back home while serving in the Civil War. These were recorded by his mother into an old tablet of Sarah's which she had used before her death to take notes at a Chemistry class she was auditing at Brown University. She was sincerely mourned and missed by her family.
