U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Bryant and Stratton’s Business College, Kentucky, in 1878, engaged in mercantile pursuits and was president of the Bank of Tuskegee, Alabama. He was the Macon County superintendent of education (1886-88), appointed Lieutenant Colonel on the staff of Governor Joseph F. Johnston in 1896 and served as a member of the Alabama State Senate in 1898. In 1901, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-seventh and Fifty-eighth Congresses and served until his death at age 43 from pneumonia.
