Delilah Olive Bouchie was the real life model for the character Lib Brewster in the book "These Happy Golden Years" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Laura boarded at her home while teaching school and later wrote about her experiences there both in her fictional book and her autobiography "Pioneer Girl".
March 14, 1919: Obituary. Mrs. Delile Crabtree better known in this community as Mrs. Lewis Bouchie was born in Rockford, Ill., in October, 1856 and died February 26, 1919 in a hospital in Minneapolis after a week's illness. Her life was that of a sojourner, as is true of so many. Illinois, Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota being states in which she lived.
Seven survive to mourn her loss. They are John Morrison; Leonard Bouchie of Wisconsin; Mrs. Pearl Bowen, Minneapolis; Marvin Bouchie, De Smet; Mrs. Iva Merill; Swanville, Minn.; and Mrs. Archie Drager, Little Sauk, Minn.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Congregational Church. Rev. J.D. Whitelaw officiating. Interment was in De Smet.
