The large monument for the Lot 59 family has MacPherson. The only member of the family to use the Mac version was Lawrence's son, Roy, who is buried in Evergreen under that name.

There were 6 markers in the row nearest the road (east half of the lot). From left to right (south to north):

MOTHER: Maggie
EUNICE / CHARLIE: Neither in the Evergreen Directory. Died before 1885? May have been children.
MOTHER: Betsey, 1st wife, not in Evergreen Directory. Died before 1885.
FATHER: Lawrence
HELEN
WALTER

The first MOTHER is Maggie. The second MOTHER is the first wife of Lawrence, and is not in the Evergreen Directory. Neither is Eunice or Charlie, presumably children who died young. Word is that burials weren't registered at Evergreen until 1885. They tried to catch up on that but obviously they're going to miss some. So I think all three died before 1885. (Brainerd Tribune, 11 January 1879, p. 4, c. 1)

      L. McPherson has returned from St. Paul, where he has been having his eye treated, and reports it past danger and much improved. (Brainerd Tribune, 25 January 1879, p. 4, c. 1)

A very pleasant occasion was the gathering on Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. W. S. Hill of the Y. P. S. C. E. The occasion was a social, but after the company had gathered it was decided to turn it into a farewell reception for Lawrence McPherson, who was to depart on the following evening for Livingston, Montana, where he has been offered a more lucrative position with the N. P. company. The evening was utilized to express the regrets of the society at his departure, as he has been a very useful and active member, and all attendants at the First Congregational church will miss his faithfulness and courtesy as usher. The appreciation of his services and regret at his departure we express in informal remarks by Rev. T. M. Edmands, Messrs. Frank and Henry White, J. L. Snyder and R. K. Whiteley.       PROMINENT RAILWAY MAN DIES
                            _____

      Lawrence S. McPherson, Aged 60,
Dies of Bright's Disease at the
                   N. P. Sanatarium

Lawrence S. McPherson, aged 60, died at the Northern Pacific railway sanatarium of Bright's disease last evening at about eleven o'clock. He was a prominent railway man and as foreman of the round house for 20 years or more at the shops, he was well known to a large number of shop employees and railroad men. All familiarly called him "Larry."
Mr. McPherson was born in Blairglowrie, Scotland on February 14, 1851. He emigrated to the United States shortly after the Civil War and worked some time in Chicago. From there he went to St. Paul at the time the Northern Pacific railway was built. He came to Brainerd in 1872 shortly after the shops were erected and later was made round house foreman, which position he held for over 30 years. He was an active, faithful and painstaking man and was highly regarded by the company officials.
He has been sick some time but it was only about six weeks ago that he was removed to the sanatarium of the railway company. He was married in St. Paul to Miss Thompson [sic] and to them six children were born. Of these, four are living, Mrs. W. G. Percy, of Phoenix, Arizona; Lawrence D. McPherson, of Vancouver, Wash.; James and Miss Margaret McPherson, of Brainerd, all of whom have been here during their father's last illness.
His second marriage occurred 25 years ago to Miss Maggie McLean and to them two children, Mabel and Roy McPherson, were born, all of whom survive him. The funeral will be held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon from the residence, 305 North Eleventh street and probably from the Methodist church at three o'clock.
In former years the deceased was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen. He was a member at his death of the lodge of Good Samaritans. The sympathy of their many friends is extended the family in its sad bereavement. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch, 29 August 1911, p. 3, c. 4)
