Susanna’s importance, other than she herself is our many times great grandmother, is that she was married to Abner Chappell, a Revolutionary War Veteran, and the mother of Miles Chappell, a War of 1812 Veteran.

There are not a lot of specifics about Susannah Moore Chappell except that she married Abner Chappell on 4 Sep 1786. The Amelia County marriage books (p. C-3) show Abner Chappell married Susanna Moore on September 4, 1786. Susanna’s guardian, John Tucker consented.

Dates of birth on The internet range from 1740 to 1768 and commonly include 1762 and 1765. The dates shown here come from the information on familysearch.org.

Place of birth is consistently listed as Amelia, Virginia, USA.

Her date and place of death is vaguely documented in the book: “Kirkland Kith And Kin: An American Family” by B. J. Fisher in the Abilene Texas Public Library. “ Referring to her husband, Abner Chappell, Fisher wrote “His wife, Susanna Moore Chappell, according to tradition, died sometime before 1820 in Bedford County, Tennessee.”

There is no evidence that James Moore and Mary Martha Denton are the parents of Susanna Moore as evidenced by her marriage records with a guardian consenting to her marriage.

If you have any proof of date of birth, date of death, burial location, and parentage, please advise.

William Chappell 1787-1841
Miles Chappell 1790-1887
