Miss Anna Naber, a lifelong resident of this city passed away in death at her home last Wednesday morning at about 8:30 after an illness of several years with arthritis, being confined to her bed for the past two weeks.
Anna Naber was born in this city on Nov. 22, 1871, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dietrich Naber, thus reaching the age of 72 years, eight months and four days. The parents were early settlers of this community, the father opening up a general store in this city when the country was very thinly settled.
After her graduation from the Mayville High school she instructed German classes here for several years and then went to Chicago where she also instructed in German for a number of years. Returning to this city she assisted in her father's store for many years and few people in this part of the county did not know Anna Naber.
She was one of the founders of the Mayville Library and for nearly 40 years was secretary and treasurer of the Mayville Public library. She served faithfully on the library board until early this spring when her ailment made it impossible for her to attend the meetings. For many years she was an active member of the Ladies chorus and the Damensektion and was president of the two organizations for many years, and an honorary member of the Mayville Woman's Club.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Oscar, two sisters, Louise, Mrs. Albert Paustian and Della. She is mourned by the following: Mathilda, Lucy, Hedwig, Mrs. Henry Wegner, and Adolf, all of this city.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Naber residence, conducted by Atty. John A. Thiel with two beautiful selections by Miss Ruth Strampe, accompanied by Mrs. G. E. Jones. She was laid to rest in Graceland cemetery for the beautifying of which she worked so willingly as a member of the Frauen-Verein.
