DEATH OF A WELL KNOWN NEGRO
John Rone, For Many Years a Bank Porter,
Passes Away.
John Rone, an aged negro, who was for many years a familiar figure around the banks of Kansas City, died at his home this morning. Rone came to Kansas city in 1869 and found employment as a porter at the First National Bank. Later he went to the National Bank of Kansas City, where he worked for years. His honesty was proverbial and he frequently carried large sums of money from one bank to another. When the National Bank of Kansas City failed Rone, Rone was employed by the Kansas City State bank. Two years ago he left his place there on account of bad health.
Rone was born in Fredericksburg, Va. He was a member of the Methodist church for fifty years and was the founder of Rone lodge No. 25, Masonic order. The funeral will be held from the Methodist church, Tenth and Charlotte streets, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
