Sterling Bartlett was born Dec 1807 per numerous records: census, military, marriage. Per military records the gravestone was ordered from the government on Nov. 30, 1894.

Sterling served as a Union soldier in the 6th Regiment of WVA Infantry, Co. G. He enlisted on Aug. 13, 1861 and was discharged June 1865. The purpose of this Regiment was to guard the railroad [which explains I think his age as a volunteer].

He was married to Olive [nee] Bartlett daughter of John Bartlett and Pauline Waldo Bartlett.

I have not been able to prove the parents of Sterling and I would gratefully except suggestions or documentation.

The death date for Sterling is an educated guess. He filed for a Civil War Pension disability on Nov. 4, 1887.

Olive his wife filed for widow's pension on Mar 1, 1889 and on the 1900 census Olive is listed as a widow. Hence Sterling died before March 1, 1889 and I believe she would have filed immediately after Sterlings death, so I have chosen to use the 1889 as a death date.
