Death of Jesse West Jr.--About 5 o'clock this morning, Brother Jesse West, Jr. died at his residence in the Fifth Ward of this city. About a month ago he was called to go on a mission to the Southern States, to leave here on November 6. On the evening of November 2 a party was given in his honor in the Ward. He had been making arrangements for his departure, but as he was not feeling well he was directed not to make the start on the day fixed. About November 4 he began to be seriously ill, typhoid pneumonia having developed. He was given the best of attention, but sank to rest today. He was an unassuming man, and bore an excellent character. He was about 35 years of age, and leaves a wife and seven small children, the youngest but a few weeks old. He was the son of Counselor Jesse West Sr. of the Sixth Ward. The bereaved family have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their affliction. The funeral will probably be held on Sunday, at the Fifth Ward meeting house, the time not yet having been fixed.
OBSEQUIES--The funeral services over the remains of the late Elder Jesse West, Jr. were held in the Sixth Ward meeting house yesterday. The building was crowded with friends of the deceased, and many were unable to gain admission. Bishop S. M T. Seddon, of the Fifth Ward, presided, and the opening prayer was offered by Bishop James C Watson. The speakers were Elder Elias Morris, President A. H. Cannon, Bishop Seddon, Bishop Watson, Elder R. F. Turnbow and President A. M. Cannon. The remarks were in reference to the consistent and honorable life of the deceased, which had won for him the love and esteem of his associates. Incidents were related which showed his integrity to the right under trying circumstances. The speakers expressed the deep sympathy of the people for the bereaved, and offered words of comfort and consolation to the mourners. The closing prayer was offered by Elder Henry Harrow, and a large cortege followed the remains to the cemetery.
