Civil War Service: he enlisted Aug 17 1861. At Camp Wade, Cleveland, Ohio, he mustered in Sep 4 1861 as Bugler, Co D, 2nd Ohio Light Calvary. He was mustered out Jan 1 1863 by order of the War Dept. back dated to Oct 6 1862 as Bugler Co D Ohio 2nd Calvary.
Apr 27 1864 he again enlisted and at Sandusky, Erie, Ohio was mustered in May 5 1864 as 2nd Lt., Co H 171st Ohio Infantry. Johnson's Island, Ohio Aug 20 1864 he was mustered out as 2nd Lt., Co H 171st Ohio Infantry with the company at the end of the 100 day enlistment.
They had one son, Jay L, possibly an actor. He married and moved 1st to New York and then to Los Angeles where they died in 1932.
He lived locally long enough to be the informant on his father's death certificate.
