Mr. Marion "Cotton" Mullins, 58, of Newport, departed this life on Friday, July 15, 2011 at Greenville, Mississippi.
He was born July 19, 1952 at Newport, the son of Boyd, Sr. and Verna (Teague) Mullins.
He married Miss Debbie Deaton on December 13, 1974.
Cotton was a 1970 graduate of Newport High School.
As a young man, he served in the U.S. Air Force.
Cotton began working for Farm Serve U in 1974 and worked there until it became Helena Chemical Company in 2000. He then continued his work as salesman for Helena Chemical. Cotton was dedicated to his work, he enjoyed working, the people he worked with and the clients he served. He was an outdoorsman, he enjoyed deer hunting with a muzzle loader, rifle, and a bow, and working in his yard. Recently he completed the renovation of his entire back yard. Cotton enjoyed playing poker with friends. He enjoyed cooking and grilling for his family. Cotton was a simple man, loved by so many. He had a kind and gentle spirit, loved to tease, loved his friends, and was especially kind to children.
He was preceded in death by his father, Boyd Mullins, Sr. on October 10, 2006; and his mother, Verna (Teague) Mullins on August 18, 2009.
Cotton is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Debbie (Deaton) Mullins of the home; one son, Matthew Mullins and wife Patty of Jonesboro; one daughter, Amber Nicole Mullins and fiancée, Casey Slagley of Newport; three brothers, Sonny Mullins of Sherwood, Arkansas, Ray Mullins of Oxford, Arkansas, and Lonnie Mullins of Campbell Station, Arkansas; three sisters, Rosemary Miller of Gulf Port, Mississippi, Martha Smith of Tuckerman, Arkansas, and Donna Bedwell of Newport, Arkansas; and a lifetime of friends.
Funeral services were held at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Lamkins Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were: Allen Blair, Keith Pigg, Sam Nicholson, Alvin Mullins, Jonathan Davis, Jeremy Stokes, Aaron Simpson, and Lee Huckabee.
Employees of Helena Chemical served as honorary pallbearers.
Arrangements were by Jackson's Newport Funeral Home.
