Justice of the Peace and Township Clerk for Posey Township. In his youth he worked as a cooper and farmer and married Ann Flanagan on February 27, 1845 in Harrison County, Indiana. From 1850 to 1852 he was the administrator of the estates of his father Youngs Babcock (c.1792-1850) and his uncle James Rich Babcock (c.1802-1842). He was married on May 31, 1879 in Harrison County to his second wife Sarah Stabe, who squandered the remainder of his estate for the benefit of her own children and left him buried without a headstone.
