U.S. Congressman. Moving to Missouri with his parents, he attended Home Academy College, the University of Missouri and taught school, (1880-81). Moving to Holden, Missouri, in 1882, he engaged in the mercantile business, was a member of the Missouri State Republican committee, (1896-98) and Mayor of Holden, (1902-04). He also was a member of the executive committee of the Missouri State Roads commission, (1906-10), a member of the Holden Board of Education, (1911-12) and a member of the board of regents, Central Missouri Teachers College, (1928-32). In 1929, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-first Congress, serving until 1931. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he returned his various committee duties and resumed his former business activities. He died in retirement at age 87.
