OPAL
Tonola Opal Baxter, 90, passed away December 14, 2000 in Sandy, Utah.

She was born August 26, 1910 in Beebe, Arkansas, to Will E. and Edna Fetcher. Married John W. Baxter, he preceded her in death on December 23, 1984.

Opal enjoyed fishing and loved going to Wendover. She was a member of the LDS Church. She was very self-reliant and took care of herself until the very end. We are very proud of her fiercely independent spirit.

Survived by her son, Walt Baxter; daughter-in-law, Susann Kosovich Baxter (wife of Richard, deceased); grandchildren, Stephanie, Kristy and John Baxter; great-grandchildren, Brooke and Caitlyn; and a sister, Lillian "Bill" Short.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard.

Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Sunday, December 17 from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services will be held in the Sandy City Cemetery, 9000 South 700 East, Monday, December 18 at 1 p.m.
(Published in The Salt Lake Tribune Saturday, December 16, 2000)

Note: Opal's family surname is spelled two ways: Fecher and Fetcher. Her parents and siblings use the Fecher spelling. Many cousins and other relatives use the Fetcher spelling. Neither is wrong. It is simply a preference, which is their right - although confusing at times! pfp
