US Congressman. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, with the outbreak of the Civil War in enlisted in the Union Army. He served as a Corporal in Company A, 171st Ohio Infantry and participated in the Shenandoah Valley Virginia, campaign of 1864. After the war, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in Warren, Ohio, in 1867 and relocated to Missouri. He practice law in Nevada, Missouri, was circuit attorney and judge of the twenty-fifth circuit court, plus a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1884. In 1895, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth Congress, serving until 1897. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law, served as the 37th Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, (1907-08) and was a collector of internal revenue at Kansas City, Missouri, (1907-15). He died at age 79 in Kansas City, Missouri.
