U.S. Congressman. He taught school at St. Albans Academy, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1830 and proceeded to practice law in Brockport, New York, in 1831. In addition, he engaged in agricultural pursuits and was one of the constructors of the Rochester & Niagara Falls Railroad. In 1845, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-ninth and Thirtieth Congresses, serving until 1849. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his agricultural pursuits until his death.
