ASH, KATHERINE NEISTER RUTLAND, 89, formerly of St. Petersburg, passed away March 3, 2003, in Orlando where she moved ten years ago to be near her daughter and family. She was born in Lynchburg, VA, on June 22, 1913. Affectionately known to family and friends as "Boo-Bah," she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her talent for writing poetry for those she loved will continue to bring joy to their lives. Her priorities were evidenced by one of her poems that was attached to a family Christmas gift: "Count not the value of my gifts, But count the love they bring, For I would give you diamonds, pearls, and other lovely things, And could I bring the angels down, To bring stars from above, Even this could not convey, The measure of my love." She was predeceased by her husband Robert L. Ash, Sr. Survivors include her son Robert L. Ash, Jr., of St. Petersburg and her daughters Rosemary Rutland Hewitt of Orlando and Katherine Rutland McKenzie of Stone Mt., Georgia; grandchildren Katherine Whitney Hewitt Goin, Benjamin Rutland Hewitt, Robert Michael McKenzie, and Jill Katherine McKenzie-Burr; great-grandchildren Andrew, Matthew and James Duncan Goin. She is also survived by her "third daughter" Sandra Hewitt Kirk. Following a family Memorial Service, interment will be at Woodlawn Memory Gardens in St. Petersburg.
