Mary Skut, nee Rychlak, was born in 1894 in the rural community of Rzeszow, in southeastern Poland during a period when that region was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. While living in Poland, as a young teenager, she worked on various farms in Southeastern Poland. She emigrated to the United States where she met and married Anthony Skut. They settled in Colchester, CT. where they operated a dairy farm and raised their five boys. She died in a tragic accident while helping to load hay into the loft of the barn.
