US Congressman. Served in the United States Army during the War of 1812. Elected to represent Alabama's 2nd and 5th Districts in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1839 to 1841, and 1849 to 1851. He was defeated in 1840. Also served as a Member of the Alabama State Senate from 1827 to 1828, Member of the Alabama State House of Representatives in 1831, 1842 to 1845, and 1853, and Presidential Elector from Alabama in 1860.
