My grandfather was born to Polish immigrants, Mary and Martin Grzyb and was one of 6 children. His father worked in the coal mines in Scranton, PA. My grandfather married Edna Wisneski on August 24, 1940 and had one child, Carol.
Dziadzi (grandfather in Polish) was a wonderful man who loved his "girls" (wife, daughter and granddaughter) and his godson, who was also his grandson, Paul. Dziadzi worked in insurance for most of his life and was very proud to have done his part in WWII. He always had a smile and was a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. Dziadzi liked to embarrass those he loved in fun. As you can see in the picture, one of his tricks was to wear a Burger King crown when he took his 10 and 11 year-old grandchildren out to eat at Burger King. This particular crown he wore all night, including the fancy restaurant we took him to for his 80th birthday. On his 80th birthday he announced that he could now do and say whatever he wanted. ;o)
Dziadzi always prayed that when his time came that he would go quickly and in good weather (he didn't want us to drive in snow to bury him in Scranton). His prayers were answered. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, Paul, and 2 grandchildren, Brenda and Paul Henry.
