Death of Mrs. S. E. Johnson
At the end of the week Saturday night, about 10 o'clock, the tired spirit of Mrs. S. E. Johnson wafted its way to the realms above. While Mrs. Johnson had been ailing for a long time, the end came unexpectedly, and the grief stricken family were hurriedly called together to hear the sad news. The oldest son, Dr. N. S. Johnson, was at home, and did all that was possible, while Sam was called home from Bedford City, Va., and Arthur from Nashville, Tenn., Ruth, the youngest and only daughter, being at home with her mother. Mrs. Johnson was an estimable lady, a kind and devoted mother, a Christian woman, for many years a member of the Baptist church. She survived her husband, Dr. J. S. Johnson, Jr., about seven years. Of a quiet and retiring disposition, her years of widowhood had been passed in the interest of her children, who mourn the loss of a good parent. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. A. C. Swindall Monday afternoon, the interment taking place at the Clanton cemetery Tuesday morning, a large number of mourning neighbors and friends attending. She was 51 years of age (sic) had led a blameless life, and her end is peace.
