Roy was the son of Andrew and Ida (Izer) Alexander.

Mr. Alexander was a veteran of World War I, serving in the US Navy. He was the first director of veteran affairs in Adams County, retiring in 1963. He was a past president of the PA State Directors of Veteran Affairs and a member of the Albert J. Lentz Post 202 and a post commander. He was also a member of Forty and Eight, the Gettysburg Elks, and the Last Man's Club of World War I.
