Lois A. Lindsey, 84, Duncansville, beloved wife and mother, passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus, after a brief illness.
She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Lloyd and Bettie (Eckard) Holsinger. She married Eugene E. Lindsey July 17, 1947, in Duncansville.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years; daughter, Genie Hanelly and husband, Larry, of Bellwood; a stepson, Ben of Altoona; many nieces and nephews; lifelong friend, Colleen Dively of Hudson, Fla.; and special friend, Darlene Clawson of Roaring Spring. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Janet Claar, Romaine Imler and Ruby Webb.
Lois was a veteran of World War II, serving as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps Women's Reserve from 1945-46.
She was a fan of the Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers, Penn State Nittany Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Lois was ahead of her time in her thinking and was a wonderful cook and baker, although she would never admit it.
She will be especially missed by her daughter.
Honoring the wishes of the deceased, there will be no public visitation; however, friends and family will be received at a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Hicks Memorial United Methodist Church, Duncansville, with the Rev. Richard M. Morris officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
