John J. Thomas, 82, of Tower Hill passed away Saturday (April 23, 2011) at his residence.

He was born January 13, 1923, in Cowden, the son of Charles Fredrick and Veda (Carlisle)Lewis Thomas.

He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force serving until his retirement and then retired from Borg Warner.

He married Sandra Castelli (divorced) of Pana and is survived by his daughter, Fay Benson (husband Doug) and grandsons John and Christopher Benson of Nederland, CO; daughter Johnette Kaye Thomas and grandson Zachary of Commerce Township, MI; and daughter Joyce Conklin (husband Russ) and granddaughter Renee of Hallsville, MO.

Public graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in Mound Cemetery Cowden with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville


(He also has a sister living in Mattoon, Illinois by the name of Annabelle B.Turner and a niece also in Mattoon, Illinois by the name of Cheryl Harmon Johnson. Correction to obit by his niece Cheryl Johnson)
